What is Eczema and What Causes It?

Eczema is a chronic skin disorder whereby the skin becomes cracked, dry reddened and irritatingly itchy. Typically eczema disease begins with unpleasant itching that will inevitably cause you to scratch which makes the itching worse. This cycle will go on and on until eventually, the skin bleeds. Even though the red patches may occur in virtually any part of the body, eczema usually appeared on the arms (hands, wrists), legs (feet, ankles, and knees), upper chest, neck, and the most dreadful place of all: the face. It has equal effects on both men and women regardless of the different ethnic backgrounds. Eczema mainly affects children; approximately 80% of eczema cases start prior to the age of 5, with a sizeable number develop it in the first year of their life and will continue throughout their adulthood. Experts believe that folks suffering from eczema are most likely genetically inherited.

Treating eczema with an Air Purifier

A good, reputable air purifier (SharpLevoit, Philips) is capable of eliminating spores, pollen, and bacteria that can significantly curb and suppress an eczema outbreak. An air purifier may also cut down the dependence on prescribed medication while reducing the number of dust level inside a room that will minimize the impact of eczema. The key thing is when selecting an air purifier for eczema treatment, always choose the unit that provides the best filtration which is why you should go with one that has HEPA filter. The HEPA filter is developed to filter not just on dust, pollen; it can also filter on the tiniest airborne pollutants including common bacteria found at home. Additionally, a humidifier (stand-alone or built-in with a purifier) is incredibly beneficial at maintaining your skin moist and form a protective layer to prevent allergens from the air.

HEPA (High-Efficiency Particulate Air) is a type of air filter that must reach the strict standards set by the United States Department of Energy (DOE). To qualify as a HEPA filter, the filter must have the efficiency in removing at least 99.97 various sizes of airborne particles all the way down to 0.3 µm (microns). HEPA filters have numerous applications such as in hospitals, automobiles, homes and also air purifiers.

In most circumstances, the air purifier will only act as assistance in your quest against eczema battle and are not likely to get rid of eczema by itself. If you are currently suffering from eczema or suspect having one, always take extra precaution to ensure that your home is allergen-free. Used only hypo-allergenic pillows and bed sheet covers, wash all clothes, bedding with good old natural detergent or at least mild detergent. Avoid fabric softener when possible. Dry your clothes under the sun in a well-ventilated area. Avoid milk and dairy products as it is known to aggravate eczema. Reduce the exposure or better yet avoid cosmetics makeup, generic soaps or detergents that will dry your skin. Again avoid inhaling chemically strong cleaning solutions, irritating fabrics such as wool, going near allergen linked plants and the most common of all: scratching. Use natural remedies such as Aloe Vera to soothe itchiness. Above all else, always consult a doctor prior to all that.

With the right combination of specific medicated skin ointments, natural remedies, food diet, HEPA air purifier with humidifiers, your troubles with eczema will be gone with the wind.

  • Eczema is a chronic skin disease whereby the skin becomes cracked, dry reddened and itchy.
